Welcome to DiverseModels.com! My name is Ed aka Edrenalin and this is a site that I have created to hopefully change the way people see modeling. As a model trying to make it in the mainstream fashion industry, I found it difficult to be taken seriously initially. Agencies wouldn’t even talk to me because they said I was too short and “not what they were looking for”. For years I lived with this feeling of rejection, not only by the modeling world, but also from the everyday world. I tried to do what society expected of me; get an education and find a desk job, but there was a strong urge, a passion I couldn’t deny, my desire to be a model. I would freelance and go to photoshoots after work, on weekends and sometimes in the mornings before work. Being a model was a way I was able to encourage my creativity and balanced my world from all the craziness and the mundane. Sometimes it was very difficult to juggle and I was living a double life but in my heart I felt I was on the right path and this is what I wanted to do.
This is just a snippet of my life and there is much more to tell, which I will do so as I continue to build this website and you can follow me on my modeling blog, however I knew that my story is just one in a million and my experience wasn’t a sole story. As I continued to network, I began uncovering stories of other models who felt the same challenges as I did – discrimination and rejection, as well as stories of joy, passion and success and I wanted to gather these stories to share these with the world to bring awareness that models that are not typically seen in the mainstream can be beautiful. Hopefully, we can all learn from each others’ experience and grow together.
The concept for this website evolved, after an excited conversation over the phone with one of my model friends. He knew of the struggles I endured due to not fitting to the mainstream and we brainstormed ways of bringing similar issues to attention and bringing models together to create a safe space to share thoughts, dreams and hopes as an attempt to facilitate change in people’s minds and open them to acceptance and appreciation.
So follow us on our journey. We look forward to hearing from you all!
